He believed that all our individual life stories were created by a race of writers in a parallel real universe. He said there are 3 billion people in the parallel universe and they all write. We are their characters. Our lives are the stories they tell each other for entertainment, emotion and education. When they finish off one life they start another story. (The author of the “Hitler” story in the parallel universe actually won a prize in the terror and horror category - by far the largest category. He’s not unlike a kind of Stephen King superstar.) They all borrow liberally from each other, cross-reference, trade manuscripts and even plagiarize to a shocking degree. He maintained that in such a huge population of writers there are bound to be a few klinkers, ethnic-regionalists, pornographers, absurdists, and just boring bad writers. He could see them all reflected in his life as he tried to detect his own author. What kind of asshole was this guy? He said I guess you just have to look at the evidence of your own story to discover the nature of the author.
